If you’ve read any of my previous posts about college, you’ll remember that one of the first things I always tell you is “Buy an agenda”, and I give a couple reasons why I think you should have one. However, I haven’t elaborated on all the reasons why agendas are one of the best things on the planet. After realizing this, I knew I had to take action immediately.
So without further ado, here are 5 reasons why you should use an agenda
1. Writing things down helps you to remember them
It’s a scientifically proven fact that physically writing something down helps you to remember it. Why do you think we take notes in class? You’re more likely to process the information if you have to write it down. Even if you just write something in your planner and don’t look at it again, you’re probably more likely to remember than if you just took a mental note.
2. You’ll get things done quicker
Before I used an agenda, I used to just “remember” to do things. Oh, I have an assignment in math? I’ll remember it! Believe me when I say I had a few really close scrapes where I had to wake up super early the morning something was due because I forgot to do it the night before. If you write an assignment and its due date in your agenda, you’ll surely remember to do it without worrying about a time crunch.
3. You know when you can and can’t make plans
As soon as I get my work schedule for the next week, I write it in my agenda. Why? So that if someone asks me what I’m doing on Thursday night, I can check right away to see if I work or have another prior obligation. An added bonus: it makes you sound really important when you can say “Let me check my agenda.”
4. You’ll feel like you have your life together
This is kind of the past three points summed up into one, but I think it deserves its own. When I use my agenda, I’m like “Look out world, I use a planner and nobody can stop me!” With all your responsibilities written down, you’ll feel like there’s nothing you can’t do. If you’re anything like me, this might cause you to take on a few too many tasks, but hey, there’s nothing wrong with being ambitious!
5. It’s fun to use one!
“Um, Anna,” you might be saying to yourself, “Are you really telling me it’s fun to write down all my obligations?” The answer is yes! You can totally customize your agenda based on your personal tastes. Some girls use stickers to mark certain events, but I prefer to use Staedtler pens to color code all my classes, clubs, and work schedule. Once you figure out which method works the best for you, you can create the prettiest agenda there is!
Here are my favorite agendas – they’re all super cute and have plenty of room for writing!
