I can’t even right now you guys. The Bachelorette finale was stressful, irritating, and predictable. Not to mention the format was TERRIBLE. THE ENDING WAS LITERALLY GIVEN AWAY WITH AN HOUR LEFT.
A WHOLE HOUR.
But anyway, since I’ve blogged about practically every other episode this season, I can’t skip out on the most important one regardless of how much I hated it.
Before we get into the actual ~drama~ of the show, we need to discuss the format. So the show started out with Chris Harrison walking onto the stage announcing that this finale was going to be a bit different than previous seasons. Since this was my first actual Bachelor Land finale, I was like “Ok, this is fine. I don’t have anything to compare it to!”
Basically, instead of 2 hours of show followed by After The Final Rose, Rachel watched the finale live with the studio audience. In between dramatic scenes of the episode, it would cut back to the studio where Rachel and Chris Harrison would discuss what just happened.
I quickly learned that this format was not fine.
Peter – Fantasy Suite Date
We pick up where we left off a couple weeks ago. Peter and Rachel are in the middle of an important discussion about engagement and marriage. Peter deeply cares for Rachel, but doubts he’d be ready to propose a few days later. Rachel deeply cares for Peter, but wants a ring. They both take it upon themselves to think about how the other person is feeling.
Despite the differing opinions, Peter gets the fantasy suite card and they spend the night in the cutest little loft! Rachel said, “I felt like Peter and I were an actual couple.” Cue my false hope.
Bryan – Fantasy Suite Date
I tend to tune out whenever Bryan is on screen because of my deep dislike for him, so I apologize if this is not a thorough enough recap.
There was a horseback ride through the countryside, which would be romantic, except for the fact that Bryan sensed something a bit off about Rachel. Rachel was kind of preoccupied with the thought of Peter and if she would be okay if there was no engagement at the end.
Bryan still got the fantasy suite card of course, and that was that.
Since I’m an apparel major and fashion blogger, I feel the need to assess what the guys were wearing during the ceremony.
Eric: Dude, seriously?? A WHITE T-SHIRT UNDER A BLACK SUIT? What was going through your head, sir?? I mean you said you were confident, but that’s just silly!
Peter: Dapper as always. Look at that tie and pocket square!
Bryan: Was your aim to look like a huge douche? If so, you succeeded. We can tell you’re from Miami, bro.
Fashion report over.
So after Rachel pointedly looked at Peter as she said, “I want a ring at the end of this,” she gave the roses to Bryan and Peter. Eric actually took it super well, and was very mature about the whole situation.
I felt really bad about Rachel letting Eric home. He was my second favorite out of the 3 remaining (Peter being first obv) and I think he deserved a lot better. I hope that he’ll take this whole experience as a stepping stone towards a lasting relationship.
Bryan – Final Date
Again, I sort of zoned off during this.
All I can remember is a hot air balloon ride and Bryan saying, “If Rachel doesn’t say yes when I propose, it’ll be the biggest mistake in her life.”
Okie dokie artichokie.
Peter – Final Date
Okay, so Rachel takes Peter to a monastery. Super romantic, right? Not so much. While it is quite beautiful, I feel like Rachel was just trying to push the idea of marriage onto Peter.
They head back to Peter’s room, and this is where the tension starts. I’m beginning to get nauseous.
Peter restates that he isn’t ready for a proposal yet. I am on his side because he wants to actually get to know Rachel for real before popping the question. Marriage is very important to him, so he doesn’t want to jump into anything too quickly.
Rachel basically says “yo fam, if you can’t ask me to marry you, then this relationship won’t work,” just a bit more eloquently.
Long story short, Peter’s crying, Rachel’s crying, I’M CRYING. Rachel’s fake eyelashes fall off, more crying, an actual breakup, and more crying. Let’s also note that Peter stared at her eyelashes for 2 days before leaving Spain. I couldn’t help but think this mirrored his last breakup. You know, the one where him and his girlfriend ended it mutually, he left her crying in the driveway, etc.
Talking With Peter Live
Let’s all remember that this all went down with an HOUR of the show left and people were very confused.

There are some serious shenanigans going on right now. #TheBacheloretteFinale

So Peter and Rachel get to talking on live TV after Chris Harrison basically gives away the ending. You can tell that Rachel holds a huge grudge against Peter for all the things he said to her (read: “You’re going to live a life of mediocracy without me”). Peter obviously feels bad because he said that in a very emotional state, but this is when we know this is not an act. This is for REAL. The thing that we all knew was going to happen was about to happen…
With Peter gone, we all knew Bryan was going to be the winner. Sure enough, he shows up on a very windy balcony and proposes to Rachel. She obviously says yes, and they have a heartfelt moment.
Meanwhile, the Spanish weather is trying to literally blow Bryan away into oblivion. I feel really bad for the poor audio editors who had to try and edit it out.
What’s even WORSE is we had to watch the proposal again on television. Like once wasn’t bad enough??
Honestly, I think Rachel made a poor decision. She was so caught up in trying to get engaged that she settled for the wrong guy. Now, I know she’s happy right now, and I hope she continues to be happy, but I personally wouldn’t want to be engaged to someone after 10 weeks of knowing them.
Now I just hope that Peter, Eric, or Dean end up being the next Bachelor!
Also, I’m really looking forward to Bachelor in Paradise! This will be my first time watching, and I’m excited to see everything unfold.
What do you think about the finale? Who do you think the next Bachelor will be? Are you excited for BIP? Let me know in the comments!
