*This post was not sponsored by any of the following services. They are simply awesome ways to get discounts, and I needed to share them!
You know what my favorite meme is right now? The fact that many people in older generations blame millennials for destroying the economy because, wait for it, we care more about things like avocado toast than buying homes! While I can’t deny that avocado toast is a scrumptious brunch option, I’m pretty sure it’s not destroying the housing market. But who really knows? Perhaps the creator of avocado toast is maniacally laughing because his plan to take over the world is working. Only time will tell.
Because the economy is generally kinda crappy all the time, I always like to find ways to save money! The best way to save is to not spend at all, but we all know that’s easier said than done. The next most responsible thing would be to create a budget, but I’m not quite that organized yet. However, that leads us to what this post will be all about: discounts! “Discounted” is my 2nd favorite word, after “free” of course.
You may know about most of these already, but they are an amazing way to save money, so I just have to share them!

Groupon is definitely the discount program that reaches the farthest! Not only can you get discounts on shopping and food, but also travel, fitness, and even CAR RELATED purchases! How awesome is that? All you have to do is set your location and you will get access to all the coupons that work in your area! You can also purchase discounted goods right from their website. Many of the sales only last 24-48 hours, but they can save you mad money! As I’m looking at their site right now, they have a stainless steel Apple Watch band for only $14.99!
Is there an app? Yes!
Something to note: Groupon works best in larger metropolitan areas. This being said, if you live kind of far from a large city, you likely won’t find many discounts.
Retail Me Not
Retail Me Not is a great resource if you have a long day of shopping ahead of you! They offer coupons for tons of retailers, including top names like Macy’s, Sephora, Home Depot, and more! You can also choose to browse online deals or the best in-store coupons. This is a great program because, unlike Groupon, you can use it wherever you have internet access and a bank account!
Is there an app? You betcha!
Just look at all those categories!
Okay, this is honestly one of my favorite things ever! Honey is a chrome extension that automatically searches for discounts when you get to any online check out page! Sometimes it’ll come up empty, but if there’s a coupon code out there, it’ll catch it! I love Honey because it gives me the discounts without me having to search far and wide on the internet for them.
Is there an app? I mean, it’s an internet app…
Store-specific apps and reward programs
I’m sure we all have our favorite store-specific app or reward program. Personally, I am an avid user of Starbuck’s rewards program! By being a gold star member, I can earn points that will eventually get me a free drink. You might think this is just the company’s way to get me to buy more coffee, and you would be right, but I actually don’t go to Starbucks any more than I usually would. It’s just an additional perk!
Some of my other favorite programs include:
Target: Red card (debit & credit options), Cartwheel
Caribou Coffee: Caribou Perks Card
Kohl’s: Kohl’s charge card, Yes2You rewards
Are there apps? Most definitely!
Last, but certainly not least, is the student discount. If you still have a student email, you can get a ton of great deals because retailers know that we’re a bit tight on the moolah. And guys, you can get discounts on a ton of great things ranging from clothing to museum visits! I always carry my student ID around with me just in case!
Some awesome discounts include:
Amazon: 6-month FREE trial to Amazon Prime
Spotify: Only $4.99/mo for Spotify Premium
Topshop: 10% off
Unidays: A FREE service that gets you access to tons of great student discounts to popular and trendy retailers. Definitely worth the email subscription!
Those are my favorite ways to get discounts! To my fellow bad at budgeting sisters and brothers: You’re welcome. To those who eat avocado toast AND own a house: You go, girl.
