Monthly Musings: January 2018

Hey all! Here’s something worth celebrating: we made it through the first month of the year! Hooray!

One of my goals when it comes to the content I post online is transparency. I’m not going to pretend everything is all hunky dory regarding this blog when the truth is that it’s not. So strap in folks, I’m about to get personal.

I don’t know what all of you do besides blogging, but if you post regularly and maintain a full time job, I’m amazed and I want to know your secrets! I knew it was going to be harder to blog when I go to work for 40 hours a week, but I had no idea it was going to be this level of difficult. I wake up at 5:30 in the morning, get to work at 7:30, stay until 4:30ish, and get home a little before 5. By the time I get home, I don’t want to do anything. If I didn’t prep meals over the weekend, I’m going to have cereal or a grilled cheese for dinner. At this point, the last thing on my mind is updating my blog and social channels.

All you bloggers know that blogging is pretty much a full time job that I now have to try and squeeze in on the weekends. Needless to say, I’m a bit uninspired. You could probably tell that since I only posted two times this month. I will say, though, that I was really happy with those blog posts which proves that quality over quantity is the best way to go.

Good news? I’ve got some good fashion content coming your way in the coming weeks. It’s been a bit difficult to get outfits done since I don’t have anyone here to take my photos (SOS if you live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and are good with a camera, let me know!), and it’s also been snowing every. dang. weekend. Seriously, we even had a work snow day this past Friday! Luckily, my parents are planning to come this weekend so hopefully I can get a few photo sessions out of that visit! Side note: Is summer here yet?

As far as my personal life goes, January was a pretty great month! I started a really great new job, I adopted a kitten, and finally finished decorating my living room.

So moral of the story: Full time jobs rock, but blogging is difficult when you have one. Bear with me, people, because I still want to post content, but it will definitely be less frequent than last year. Anyway, onto the fun stuff!

What Happened by Hillary Clinton – I haven’t read the past week since I haven’t been in the mood, but I have been reading this when I get the chance! You guys know I’m a pretty big HRC fan, and I do recommend this book for anyone who’s in the same boat as me.

The Bachelor: Of course, I couldn’t miss Arie’s season! I watched Emily Maynard’s season in November to prepare myself and get to know him, and so far I’m liking his season! I know there’s some controversy with the ages of the contestants, but I honestly think the girls he has in the final 7 are all great contenders. In fact, some of the underdogs are actually my favorites!

How To Get Away With Murder: I binged the first three seasons of this on Netflix this month, and I’m a fan! Y’all know I’m a Grey’s fan (and of course I’m catching the episodes every week), so it was probably no question that I’d like this Shonda show! Never short on drama!

Lost (rewatch): Technically February, but I couldn’t leave it out! I know a lot of people have mixed opinions on Lost, but it’s actually one of my favorite shows! It’s been around 4 years since I watched it the first time, and it’s just as good as I remember it being!

Of course I’m listening to Small Town Murder, My Favorite Murder, and Rosecast, but I actually added a new one to my roster!

Punch Up The Jam: This comedy podcast is by Demi Adejuyigbe and Miel Bredouw. You might know them both from Vine, but Demi was also the co-host of Gilmore Guys (a gem of a podcast for any of you Gilmore fans), so I obviously had to listen! They basically analyze popular songs and make them “better”. It’s so hilarious that I don’t recommend listening to it in public for fear of a bout of hysterical laughter.

  1. Girl, I feel you about working 40 hours a week on top of blogging! For me, it’s all about working ahead on the blog when I’m the most inspired. Sometimes, I’ll draft 4-5 posts in one sitting because I’m THAT excited about writing that content. So I do my best when I’m inspired and motivated. But it definitely is SO HARD. And I give everyone credit who does both.

  2. I totally understand moments of being so busy that you’re feeling uninspired for blogging. It stinks! Quality over quantity always though! Best wishes with your blog as the year unfolds!

  3. Cut yourself a little slack, Miss Anna, and congratulate yourself on a MONUMENTAL month of adjusting to 1) a fulltime job, 2)a new apartment in a 3) totally new city 4) and you did it on your own! Of course you’re tired at the end of the day and the week! You’ve been recreating yourself and your world. One of these days it’ll all settle in and you’ll be in your groove–and it’ll be spring! We’re all so proud of you! You GO, girl!
