Ah, Instagram, possibly the #1 social media choice of bloggers. It’s as visually stimulating as Pinterest, but as personal as Facebook or Twitter. Basically it’s the best of both worlds! *cue Hannah Montana theme song* Sorry, I had to. Anyway, the point is that Instagram is a very useful tool for influencers because it communicates their personal brands. A common denominator for influencers is that they have strong Instagram themes, otherwise known as aesthetics. In today’s post, I’m going to outline why Instagram themes are important and different ways you can get one!
Why have an Instagram theme?
You put more thought into your photos
Think about this: If you don’t have a theme for Instagram, you can post literally anything you want. That’s okay for a personal account, but not so much for a blogging/influencer account. Influencers use Instagram as a platform to share their best photos that align with their desired image. By creating Instagram themes, influencers have more control over their feed.
Curate your brand
I briefly mentioned that Instagram themes help influencers establish their personal brand. This is a wonderful way to get sponsored opportunities because brands look for certain aesthetics that match up with theirs. I think a lot of people put their personalities into it too. For instance, Christie Tyler, @nycbambi, has a very free-spirited, artsy demeanor and her Instagram theme conveys that.
It’s easier to gain followers
When you have an established Instagram theme, you attract those who share the same aesthetic. I feel drawn to themes that are grayscale or warm toned and tend to shy away from the really bright ones. If I see a feed with one of those themes, I almost always follow them on the spot. You’d be surprised by the number of people who like the same theme you do!
How do you achieve an Instagram theme?
This is my personal favorite way to get an Instagram theme. Not only am I able to apply the same filter to all of my photos, but I can see how they will look in my feed before I post them. The interface isn’t exactly the same as Instagram, but it has the same grid layout. I have definitely ended up choosing different photos than what I was going to post initially after seeing how it looked in the grid. This is an example of the grid layout:
As you can see, I am aiming for a warmer theme. It’s by no means perfect, but I’m getting there!
A Color Story
Made by the lovely ladies behind A Beautiful Mess, A Color Story is a great photo editing app. It’s perfect for people who want a bright feed! The only downside to it is there’s no photo grid function to preview how your post will look with the rest of your photos.
Instagram’s editing features
If extra apps are too fussy for you, I get it. I like to keep my phone clutter-free too! Instagram has great editing features, and they’ve definitely improved since the app’s launch! Anyone else remember the days of Kelvin and Toaster? *shudders*
Hopefully this post gives you a place to start if you’re looking to develop an Instagram theme! To leave you off, here are some #AestheticGoals!
