This isn’t a secret, but fashion isn’t really made for people under 5’6″. Sleeves are always too long, we tend to trip on hemlines, and ankle pants are actually full length on us. And contrary to popular belief, we’re not all that better at walking in heels (at least I’m not anyway!). Another trend that doesn’t typically work out for petite gals: midi dresses.
What’s meant to fall a couple inches below the knee actually ends up falling a couple inches above the ankle. If styled incorrectly, it can look like I’m a 10 year old trying on my mom’s clothes. Since I’d rather look like my 21-year-old self, I wanted to find a way to wear this trend that won’t make me look juvenile. And friends, I think I figured it out!
Wear heels, not flats
Heels can make your legs look miles longer, and I think that’s a certain kind of magic everyone can appreciate. The best kind of heel to wear to make your legs look longer is a stiletto without an ankle strap, but whatever choice you make will have some sort of positive effect.
Pick something with shape
Petite frames get lost very easily under a lot of fabric. If you’re a shortie like me, you’ll want to make sure that you wear midi dresses that have some more shape. Personally, I like fitted bodices and flowing skirts because the bodice helps balance everything out.
Last, but certainly not least, work it! With confidence, you can wear anything you want to wear! Don’t let what the magazines say stop you!
