This post is sponsored by Clarisonic and Her Campus Media. While I did receive a product for free, all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Five Foot and Fabulous!
I’ve had a love-hate relationship with my skin over the last several years. Besides a mole (which I prefer to call a beauty mark, thank you very much) on my chin, I had a relatively clear face growing up. When everyone else was starting to get acne, there wasn’t really much to be found on my face. I totally took advantage of that until late middle school, which is when the blemishes started showing up. I was mortified – this wasn’t supposed to happen to ME! I had clear skin! Other people get acne! Well, 14-year-old Anna, you’re not that special. Every teenager gets it.
I had no idea what product to use to make the acne vacate my face. I tried wishing it away, using various brands of face wash, and even Proactive for a time. Despite my best efforts, I just couldn’t make it go away. Fast forward to 21-year-old Anna, and I still have acne-related redness on my cheeks with the occasional zit showing up on my forehead or chin. It doesn’t bother me quite as much anymore, especially since my makeup skills have greatly improved since 9th grade. What I care more about now is the health of my skin rather than just the appearance.
Since the weather is getting a bit chillier out, I knew it was time to change my skincare routine to keep my face fresh and glowy!
Step 1: I start out my routine by simply washing my face with warm water. This helps to wake it up and prepare it for the rest of my routine! This also lets me assure that I’m not putting any unnecessary harsh ingredients on my face.
Step 2: After washing my face, I use my handy dandy Clarisonic Mia 1. This device sonic cleanses my face and leaves it feeling fresh! If you’ve never used it before, it can be a bit intimidating, but I promise it’s super easy to use!
First things first, you dampen your face (check!), wet the bristles on the brush head, and apply the gel cleanser!
Fun fact: The Mia 1 comes with a Radiance brush head, but for $27 each you can also get the Acne brush head for oily skin or the Deep Pore brush head for cleaning out your pores. I get the best cleanse with the Deep Pore brush head!
After applying the gel cleanser comes the fun part! Turn on your Mia 1 and let it run over your forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. You don’t need to press super hard, it does the work for you! Also, the Mia 1 will stop automatically after a minute, so no need to worry about how long you should let it go.
I’ll spare you the picture of me with the cleanser covering my whole face and instead will give you this nice, casual, smiling into the mirror pose!
The Mia 1 retails at $129, but you can get 15% off all these devices by using the code “HERCAMPUS.” If that still doesn’t work for you, Clarisonic will accept monthly payments on approved credit cards!
After the minute of sonic cleansing, all you need to do is rinse out the device, put the cap on, and leave it to dry! Also, you’re going to want to wash the suds off your face. No one likes to have a soapy face for the whole day.
Step 3: After using my Clarisonic, I use Neutrogena’s brightening daily moisturizer with SPF 25 sunscreen to make sure that my skin stays hydrated and protected from the sun throughout the day! The moisturizer also helps to even out my skin tone, so it’s a great base for the rest of my makeup.
REAL TALK: I’ve been using the device for a few weeks now, and to be completely transparent, I haven’t seen total results from my Clarisonic device yet. I have had a few pimples disappear which is nice, but my redness has actually gone up. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the Clarisonic, another product I might be using, or any other factor, but I think it’s worth noting. Here’s a little before and after for your reference:
Don’t get discouraged by my (lack of?) results, though! After 4 weeks of using the gel, 98% of women said they saw a reduced amount of imperfections on their skin. Science!
So I guess the biggest question is if I’m going to continue to use this device, and the answer is yes! I really want to see a positive outcome from this device, so I’ll keep on keeping on! If you end up using a Clarisonic and you love love love it, be aware that they suggest you change the brush head every 3 months so you can get the best clean!
