Confession: I’m kind of a control freak. I like routines, schedules, and getting things done my way.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being a control freak. After all, it means that I care enough to get things done right the first time. It also makes me a more organized person, and I believe that a lot of my success has something to do with my control freak-ness.
That being said, though, there is a time when the healthiest thing to do is step back and let things happen the way they’re supposed to. I need to embrace the things I cannot control and allow myself to learn from them.
The same thing applies to blogging. Take my fashion posts, for example. Let’s say I go out and get 150 photos taken of the same look. Out of those 150, usually 15 are good, but only 8 are good enough to share. That means that an average of 95% of my photos are thrown in a digital dump. Why? Because they’re less than perfect.
I make sure to hold on to some of those imperfect photos for humility’s sake. After all, they can be pretty hilarious! They’re a reminder to take life less seriously and take a step back.
Imperfections are human
Literally, everyone has imperfections. If we didn’t, I don’t know what kind of place the world would be in. It’d be like some sort of screwed up Black Mirror episode where we’re all exact copies of each other. As Black Mirror episodes usually give me the heebie jeebies, I’m not sure I would actually want to live through one, ya know?
I call this the “awkward light pole lean” (x)
Sun + wind = scrunchy face (x)
Other people are jealous of your imperfections
Yeah, you read that right. This mindset was actually brought to my attention by one of my co-workers. When someone asked him how he was, he said “Oh, you know, just living someone else’s dream.”
I’m not sure if he was being a bit sarcastic, because working retail isn’t necessarily “the dream”, but it made me realize that someone may feel lucky to be in my place instead of their own. So what, you’re a size 6 when you want to be a size 2? There is probably someone out there who desperately wants to be as fit as you. Just something to think about.
Is it really a photoshoot if I’m not making a weird face at the camera? (x)
What do I do with my hands? (x)
I don’t even know how to explain this one (x)
Life goes on
It’s easy to fall into the trap that is your mind. It’s easier to get stuck there. At some point, you just have to learn to go with the flow and let things settle themselves. So take this opportunity to let loose, appreciate your whole self, and focus on other things that you can control.
Lol @ that triple chin
These old ladies were trying to make me smile when they were walking by. It worked! (x)
Wind is hard. (x)
That feeling when you realize a dress has pockets (x)
I hope you enjoyed laughing at these photos as much as I did when I was going through them! I also hope that you take time this week to kick back, relax, and let life happen. After all, we’re all imperfect and that’s okay!
